University to explore possible solutions to $45 million budget deficit

The university is exploring options to resolve its recently announced $45 million budget shortfall. Provost Michael McPherson said the university plans to begin a faculty buyout program, consider department consolidations and shift toward more online classes.

McPherson shared possible solutions to the university’s deficit with the Faculty Senate Budget Committee, which raised concerns about the job security of university employees.

“There are a whole bunch of factors,” McPherson said in the meeting. “There’s not one way to do this. We’re going to have to be holistic in everything.”…
