‘False spring’ brings risk of severe weather to Springfield area

Although astronomical spring won’t begin until later this month, Missouri is experiencing a “false spring” that includes a threat of severe weather Friday.

Along with much of the central, eastern and southern U.S., Missourians can expect higher-than-average temperatures over the next few days. The National Weather Service in Springfield is forecasting a high of 76 degrees on Friday, 62 degrees on Saturday, 67 degrees on Sunday and 75 degrees on Monday, with high temperatures continuing well into next week.

Thunderstorms also are expected on Friday afternoon and into Friday night, the weather service said Thursday, with potential hazards including large hail, damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes…
