Tarot-reading influencer ordered to pay $10M in damages for falsely accusing professor of murder

A jury in Boise awarded University of Idaho professor Rebecca Scofield $10 million in a defamation lawsuit against Texas influencer Ashley Guillard. Guillard had repeatedly and falsely claimed on TikTok that Scofield was involved in the 2022 Moscow student murders.

The jury quickly found in Scofield’s favor, awarding her more than she had asked for. Scofield testified that Guillard’s false accusations caused her serious health issues, damaged her reputation, and hurt her career, according to the Idaho Statesman.

Guillard falsely accused Scofield of being involved in the University of Idaho murders. During the trial, Guillard claimed her tarot readings led her to make the accusations online, where she posted Scofield’s photos and contact information without evidence.
