WNC town will convert part of old paper mill into wastewater treatment plant

CANTON, N.C. (FOX Carolina) – Officials said that the Town of Canton will buy part of an old paper mill site to use as a wastewater treatment plant.

Mayor Zeb Smathers said that the town will buy part of the old Pactiv Evergreen Mill site to be used as a wastewater treatment plant and a 153,000 square foot warehouse to attract new manufacturing.

“Our first priority is our wastewater needs. Second is to start the next chapter of Canton exactly where we left off, with good-paying manufacturing jobs,” Smathers shared. “For America to work, we need to build things. The action we took to secure this land aims to do both.”…
