Warm days, near-record highs, and weekend storm chances

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Good Friday morning! The day is getting off to another mild and comfortable start across the region. Skies are mostly clear, and temperatures are already on the warm side for this time of year. The overall weather pattern has not changed much, as strong high pressure continues to dominate the forecast and set the stage for another very warm afternoon.

As the day progresses, sunshine will take control and help temperatures climb quickly. Afternoon highs are expected to reach the lower 80s under mostly sunny skies, which is well above what we would typically see in early March. In fact, temperatures may come very close to tying or even breaking a record high for today. It will certainly feel more like late spring or early summer than early March.

Later in the day, particularly during the late afternoon and early evening hours, the warmth and daytime heating could help spark a few scattered showers and thunderstorms across parts of the region. These storms will likely be spotty, but a few areas could see brief downpours and perhaps a rumble of thunder before things quiet down again tonight…
