Erie Metropolitan Transportation Authority is upgrading the digital fare system on its buses starting Monday, April 13, according to a news release.
Riders using the Token Transit app will now scan QR codes or use “tap to pay” with credit cards, Apple Pay or Google Pay. The QR codes will refresh every 10 seconds to prevent misuse.
Passengers can still buy regular passes through the app, and cash payments are also accepted — though tokens and pennies are no longer allowed. EMTA says the new system will speed up boarding and make riding easier for everyone…
