Huntsville man with Iranian ties hopes war brings freedom to Iran

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – A Huntsville man with family roots in Iran says he hopes the ongoing war will bring freedom to the Iranian people, calling it a humanitarian mission.

John Hedayat was born and raised in Huntsville. His father is originally from Iran and came to the United States for school just before the Iranian revolution. After his father’s final visit back to Iran, he said the home he once knew had changed, and he decided to become a U.S. citizen and build his life here.

Hedayat said there is a rich culture in Iran, but life under the current regime has shifted dramatically. He said women in Iran cannot leave their homes without their heads covered, and men are not permitted to wear shorts in public…
