An alligator wandering onto the grounds of Snively Elementary in Winter Haven briefly turned yesterday into a classic Central Florida moment, but officials say the encounter ended quietly when the reptile left school property and headed back to a nearby canal with no further incident.

Polk County Schools posted a photo of the visitor on its social media accounts and later described the situation as resolved once the gator returned to the water, according to Tampa Bay 28. The image sparked plenty of attention from nearby residents, but the district stressed that students were never in danger.
