Louisville play about Salem witch trials tells stories of the accused

In the 1690s, about 200 people in colonial Massachusetts were accused of witchcraft, and most of them were women. The city of Salem swirled with paranoia fueled by religious extremism, and 20 people were executed.

For this year’s Women’s History Month, an all-women theater company in Louisville will portray the Salem witch trials from a different perspective: through the eyes of the accused women, rather than the accusers.

This weekend only, Looking for Lilith Theatre Company will perform “Blood to Drink,” a play about four women who were prosecuted for alleged witchcraft. Company actors said the timeliness of the piece cannot be ignored ahead of the anniversary, this week, of America’s famous witchhunt…
