Police say a Greenfield apartment turned into a crime scene when a young woman was found shot to death, and her brother allegedly admitted to pulling the trigger. Investigators have charged 27-year-old Aaron Charles Martin of Pittsburgh with killing his 26-year-old sister, Charlee Martin, inside the unit the two shared on Montclair Street. Martin remains in the Allegheny County Jail with court proceedings set for later this month.
Police Were Called for Welfare Checks Before the Discovery
According to Pittsburgh Public Safety officials, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Montclair Street just before 2 p.m. on Feb. 8 after multiple callers requested welfare checks and reported a verbal domestic dispute at the address.
When officers ultimately made it inside the apartment, they found a woman dead and a man in the bedroom. Police say the man, later identified as Aaron Martin, was taken into custody after a brief struggle and was taken to a hospital for treatment before being booked into jail. Investigators say he admitted to killing his sister, as reported by WTAE.
Court Complaint Lays Out the Scene
Court documents reviewed by TribLIVE describe what officers say they found inside apartment 5 at 789 Montclair Street. Charlee Martin was lying motionless on a blood-covered floor, and multiple spent shell casings were discovered nearby.
The complaint states that callers had told police the suspect had stopped taking his medication, had been smoking marijuana, and appeared to be in a state of psychosis. Investigators also reported recovering five iPhones as evidence. According to those same documents, the victim had been shot several times, the suspect confessed, and he was arraigned on Feb. 13 and denied bail. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for March 27.
