STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Irene Maiello, a Staten Island FDNY widow and mother of two college kids, was at a loss for words when Frank Siller, CEO of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, announced on Saturday that hers was one of 1,700 families whose college tuition worries were a thing of the past.
“I think it’s amazing‚’’ said Maiello, who was standing with family members of other lost first responders and service members at the Tunnel to Towers Reunion Weekend in Orlando for the announcement.
”It’s a blessing, a blessing”, she said. My children will be taken care of. That’s always been my worry, my children.”…
