Bluebird Diner
Recently bestowed as the “most iconic” diner in the state, The Bluebird Diner is best known for classic country cooking with an unexpected twist. The restaurant will celebrate 18 years in business in 2026 and has become a mainstay for locals and visitors alike over the years. Reminiscent of an Iowa farmhouse with diner accoutrements, Bluebird serves breakfast foods like the Krakatoa omelet, stuffed with bacon, jalapeños, pepper jack cheese and cilantro-lime cream cheese, but the restaurant also offers classic lunch and dinner fare.

Hamburg Inn No. 2
In 2022, when Hamburg Inn No. 2’s previous owners announced its closure, Iowa City was about to lose a nearly 100-year-old institution and unravel a part of Iowa’s political culture. But the Hamburg Inn No. 2 did not stay closed for long. Revived by Gold Cap Hospitality, the group is led by former Hawkeye and NFL kicker Nate Kaeding.
