Monroe Center man receives prison term for mail theft spree

OREGON, Ill. (WTVO) — A Monroe Center man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for stealing mail across three counties and leading law enforcement on a pursuit last year.

On March 27, 2025, an Ogle County Sheriff’s Deputy on patrol in Monroe Center spotted a van that had been identified as the suspect vehicle in mail thefts that had been occurring in the area.

When the van driver disobeyed a stop sign, the deputy attempted to pull him over, but the driver ran, eventually abandoning the van and running away on foot in an attempt to escape…
