GSBA sees club funding surplus after changes to prevent shortages

The Gonzaga University Student Body Association is seeing a surplus in club funding after making changes to prevent running out of money too quickly in the school year.

In February 2024, Gonzaga University’s Student Body Association spent its entire club funding budget three months before the end of the year. Due to a variety of factors, which included a greater influx of funding requests, accounting software issues and a budget $51,000 lower than the year prior, GSBA was at a point where it estimated it would have needed $750,000 to fully provide funding for all of GU’s clubs. GSBA has implemented several changes in response that have helped alleviate the issue.

Since then, GU has dealt with financial issues, such as a decline in enrollment — and, therefore, tuition income — and state and federal budget cuts. However, according to GSBA club funding coordinator Jace Down, club funding is now almost entirely unaffected…
