City MVP award goes to cop who helped family on street

HENDERSONVILLE – The city of Hendersonville honored a police officer in its March 5 meeting “for going above and beyond in helping a family in crisis,” among several other employees honored for exceptional service, City Manager John Connet said.

When Officer Kyle Nix responded to a health and welfare check for a woman and two young children in diapers sleeping in front of an auto shop on Dana Road July 15, he went out of his way to find them shelter and paid for it out of his own pocket, Connet said.

He was awarded the city’s MVP award for the July-September quarter and the inaugural Lu Ann Welter Service Excellence MVP award, Connet said, calling Nix a “quiet servant.”…
