Charleston man receives life in prison for 2023 murder

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — A Charleston County jury has convicted Neil Ferrell of murder and a weapons charge in the 2023 shooting death of Malcom Jones Jr., prosecutors announced Thursday. Ferrell was sentenced to life in prison.

The sentence reflects the “senselessness of this murder,” solicitor Scarlett Wilson announced, adding that Ferrell will “no longer be a danger to our community.”

During the three-day trial, prosecutors presented surveillance video showing Ferrell walk from Indira Grocery to the Stanley Steemer parking lot on the 7800 block of Dorchester Road on July 2, 2023, with a gun drawn, and shot Jones at close range as he was biking away.
