Early-Morning Deputy Gunfire Shatters Calm On Oakland Park Block

An early-morning call about a suspicious person in Oakland Park ended in a deputy-involved shooting Thursday, after Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies confronted an armed individual, authorities said. Deputies were dispatched shortly before 7 a.m., and during the encounter with the person believed to be armed, a deputy fired. The sheriff’s office said the incident unfolded in the 300 block of Northeast 33rd Street and confirmed that an investigation is underway.

BSO spokeswoman Miranda Grossman said in a press release that deputies initially responded to the area of Northeast 35th Court and Northeast 5th Avenue after callers reported a “suspicious person,” according to Local 10 News. She told the outlet that deputies made contact with an armed person and that a deputy-involved shooting occurred during that response. Local 10 reported no additional immediate details.

As CBS News Miami notes, the sheriff’s office said the shooting happened in the 300 block of Northeast 33rd Street and added that “more details would be released later on Thursday morning.” Officials have not said whether anyone was injured in the incident or taken into custody.
