ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) – After years as a K-9 deputy, Cato is retiring — leaving behind a career that took him from the streets of New Haven to the hallways of Leo Junior Senior High School.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department currently has nine K-9 officers trained in drug detection, explosive detection, and search and rescue. Last year, those teams assisted with 47 drug seizures, tracked down 48 people, and contributed to 38 arrests.
From patrol dog to school resource officer
Cato began his career with the New Haven Police Department before transitioning to a school resource role with the Allen County Sheriff’s Department alongside Officer Brent Bolinger.
