Commission approves new site plan for data center, over strong community outrage

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Planning Commission approved a new site plan for the hyper-scale data center being built on Camp Ground Road on Thursday. It was a vote of 6-1, with only the chair of the commission voting no.

“Yes, it may be zoned appropriately. Yes, it may meet a simple definition. But we don’t have all the facts around data centers yet,” Chair Te’Andre Sistrunk said, as cheers rang out from the crowd.

Poe Companies of Louisville and out-of-state developer PowerHouse Data Centers are building a data center in the Rubbertown neighborhood that will require 400 megawatts of electricity at full capacity. According to an LG&E spokesperson, that is about as much energy as 68% of all LG&E customers combined…
