Suspicious package at Camp Pendleton sign prompts main gate closure

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – The discovery of a suspicious package at the Camp Pendleton base sign forced the closure of the base’s main gate and two Interstate 5 off-ramps for several hours.

Camp Pendleton officials said the “unaccompanied” item was found at the concrete sign at around 5 a.m.

Due to the discovery, officials shut down the base’s gate at San Rafael Drive. As part of the response, the California Highway Patrol closed the northbound I-5 off-ramps to Vandegrift Boulevard and Harbor Drive…
