Round of strong to possibly severe storms today

A round of strong to potentially severe storms is expected to track across north Alabama this afternoon. Strong wind gusts up to 60mph are the primary concern with a lesser chance of seeing hail or a tornado. Heavy rain and lightning can also be expected.

Storms will most likely impact areas of NW Alabama between 2 and 4pm, the I-65 corridor including Huntsville, Decatur and Athens and east to Scottsboro and Guntersville between 3 and 6pm, and the remainder of Sand Mountain between 5 and 8pm.

Some rain will continue following the initial line of storms but should wind down this evening. Preceding the rain and storms, expect mostly cloudy conditions and temperatures reaching the mid to upper 70s…
