Burnet Road project tackles traffic and drainage woes

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Construction is starting next week on a road in north Austin that is home to Q2 Stadium, The Domain, and so much growth in north Austin. Burnet Road sees as many as 37,000 vehicles a day, and the city has been discussing improvements for more than 15 years.

“We actually began contemplating the future of this corridor back in 2011. That was when the domain was just an idea and getting started. We hadn’t even contemplated Q2 yet, so so much has changed, but our plan for this corridor has been designed to meet the needs of today as well as future generations,” said Austin Transportation & Public Works’ Anna Martin.

The improvements include ADA-compliant curb ramps, shared use paths for walkers and bikers, two new pedestrian hybrid beacons, intersection and traffic light upgrades, and drainage improvements…
