Audio captures pilot’s call for help before plane crashes into north Phoenix homes

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Audio recordings released Thursday capture the moments a pilot reported engine trouble to air traffic control before a small plane crashed into a North Phoenix neighborhood Wednesday.

The aircraft departed Deer Valley Airport Wednesday morning before the pilot contacted the tower to report a problem. Investigators say the plane struck the roof of one home before crashing into the backyard of another.

The recordings reveal the pilot’s initial contact with Deer Valley Tower: “Deer Valley Tower, Turkey 440, we’re going to come back in. We’re having some engine trouble,” the pilot said…
