Council OKs 99-acre Clarksville annexation for Ascension St. Thomas hospital campus

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – More than 99 acres east of Exit 11 have been unanimously approved for annexation by the Clarksville City Council, at the request of the current property owners ahead of the land purchase by Ascension St. Thomas Health Care.

The applicant also had 60 acres approved for rezoning from agricultural to C-2 general commercial to match the commercial acreage on existing parcels, according to previous reports.

Before voting on the resolution, Councilperson Stacey Streetman said this step is necessary in order for Ascension St. Thomas to move on to the next phases of their project, which includes a hospital and several medical offices on the campus.

‘We wanted these hospitals to come here. This is a part of it’

Councilperson Jimmy Brown said that when first convincing AST to come to the Clarksville area, there were a lot of people speaking in favor of the development.

“But now we have people complaining about it being annexed into the city,” Brown said. “Well, the hospital wants to be inside the city limits. They get better fire protection. For fire protection, I believe the code for city fire rating is a 2. County fire rating is a 10. Their fire insurance would be through the roof…
