SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – The Savannah Chatham County School District is on a mission to improve literacy rates. Now the Chatham Education Alliance is joining them to reach the goal of 95% of third grade students reading on grade level within the next 5 years.
George Woods and Rick Rooney, founders of Chatham Education Alliance, explained the new initiative called Moonshot.
“Rick and I met some other education advocates down in Florida. They banded around their community from the space coast so they chose the Moonshot. They say within 5 years 90% of their third graders would be read. We decided to bring it back here. We’re proud and thankful that Savannah State is hosting us. We’re going to launch it with about 185 leaders starting on Tuesday. ”…
