Wind gusts of up to 40 mph and penny-size hail could pummel parts of the Houston area Saturday evening, according to the National Weather Service.
A severe thunderstorm watch was in effect until 11p.m. for a wide swath of southern Texas, just west of Houston, with ping pong ball-size hail, frequent lightning and wind gusts of up to 70 miles an hour possible, NWS said. NWS had issued special weather statements for Atascocita, Spring, Aldine, West Livingston, Cleveland and Shepherd until 6:00 PM, the agency said on social media.
