PHOTOS: Vehicle strikes church Friday night in Mulvane

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Firefighters from Mulvane, Derby and Sedgwick County responded to report of a vehicle striking a church overnight.

It happened shortly after 9 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, located at East Plaza Lane and North Second Street in Mulvane. When crews arrived, they found that a vehicle had struck the overhang outside of one of the church’s entrances.

Wildfire burns 2500 acres in southwest Kansas

The force of the crash knocked the overhang off of its support columns and damaged the roofline where it connects with the building. Mulvane Fire received help from Derby Fire and Sedgwick County Fire District #1 technical rescue teams.

Crews installed temporary support structures to keep the overhang from collapsing and further damaging the building. Shoring was completed and crews left the scene shortly after midnight.

Mulvane Police are investigating and working to locate the driver who fled the scene. No injuries were reported…
