97th Lei court crowned for Lei Day celebration

HONOLULU (Island News) — The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Parks and Recreation congratulates the 97th Lei Court, which was crowned at a selection event on February 28, 2026, at Mission Memorial Auditorium.

Lei Queen Puamana Louise Garcia, First Princess Chariya Willis, and Princess Joy Lynn ʻAlohilani Barredo Alegarbes will represent the Lei Court this year.

Lei Queen Puamana Louise Garcia grew up in Kāneʻohe, where she learned the values of ʻohana, tradition, and community. She worked 26 years as a flight attendant with Hawaiian Airlines while developing her lei-making skills, a passion first taught by her grandmother. Puamana is also a dedicated hula practitioner, a community volunteer, storyteller, and docent, balancing her cultural work with family life as a mother and grandmother…
