Cleveland Teen Allegedly Turns Wickliffe Drug Sting Into Parking Lot Pileup

A 19-year-old Cleveland man is in custody after authorities say he hit three vehicles with his SUV during a narcotics sting in a Wickliffe parking lot, including a marked Ohio State Highway Patrol cruiser and an unmarked Lake County Narcotics Agency unit. Agents reported finding a cache of suspected narcotics and paraphernalia in the SUV, including more than an ounce of suspected fentanyl, a half-ounce of crack cocaine, 3 grams of powder cocaine, a digital scale and about $1,400 in cash. The driver was arrested without further incident and is being held at the county jail.

Lake County Narcotics Agency agents, working alongside Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers and Wickliffe police, had been conducting surveillance near Euclid Avenue and Rockefeller Road around 2:40 p.m. when they observed what they described as a suspected drug transaction and moved in to block the vehicle. Investigators say the white GMC Acadia first struck an unoccupied car, then rammed a marked trooper unit and an unmarked LCNA vehicle. The SUV briefly turned west on Euclid Avenue before becoming disabled. As reported by Cleveland 19, agents seized over an ounce of suspected fentanyl, one-half ounce of crack cocaine, 3 grams of powder cocaine, packaging supplies, a digital scale and roughly $1,400 in cash.

Charges and custody

The man was arraigned Friday in Willoughby Municipal Court on multiple counts, including possession of fentanyl, possession of cocaine, two counts of trafficking in crack cocaine, two counts of assault on a police officer, possession of criminal tools and fleeing and eluding. Cleveland 19 reports that LCNA said this is the second incident in less than a week in which a suspect damaged police cars while trying to flee. The suspect is being held at the Lake County Jail without bond.

Enforcement context

According to the Lake County Narcotics Agency, the unit supports 22 municipal and village police departments and conducts targeted investigations throughout Lake County. The agency says those coordinated operations are intended to dismantle distribution networks and cut down on the flow of illicit drugs into local communities. The task force tip line is 440-350-3333.
