La VERGNE, TN (WGNS) – La Vergne officials are reminding residents to stay alert when someone comes knocking. Reports of questionable door-to-door activity have prompted the city to clarify its rules — and reassure the public that safety comes first.
If someone shows up at your door trying to sell something or promote a service, they’re required by law to carry a city-issued permit and valid identification. That’s not optional. Residents have every right to ask for both, and legitimate solicitors should be able to produce them without hesitation.
The City of La Vergne does not endorse private companies and will never send businesses out to solicit on its behalf. That message became especially important after police received complaints about a man wearing a TDS vest who claimed he had permission from a city official to go door-to-door to talk about internet service.
