Staten Island pageant queen urges financial literacy for women based on personal experience

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Miss Richmond County Nadia Michel led a talk on women’s financial literacy and habit-building Friday in West Brighton. She spoke of learning to manage her finances alone at 19 after her mother died.

Michel, a 21-year-old New York University senior and Staten Island native from Rosebank, spoke to more than 20 attendees at A Chance in Life — The Village. The non-profit organization has a presence in 12 countries and established its U.S. location in West Brighton in 2020.

“Financial stress can affect people at any stage in life,” the told the attendees. “But the earlier we build healthy financial habits, the more stability and freedom we can have later.”
