KILLINGLY, Conn. (WFSB) – A Putnam woman is facing felony assault and reckless driving charges after police say a road rage-style confrontation on Route 6 in Killingly ended with a head-on crash that put another driver in the hospital with life-altering injuries.
Kayla M. Fitch, 32, was arrested March 3, 2026, on a warrant that had been in the works since investigators spent months piecing together what happened on the afternoon of Feb. 27, 2025. She is charged with Reckless Driving and Assault in the Second Degree. A judge set bail at $50,000 and barred Fitch from getting behind the wheel as a condition of her release.
According to the arrest warrant, Fitch, driving a Honda Pilot, and the driver of a Ford Transit van had been tailgating, crossing double yellow lines and cutting each other off as both vehicles pushed westbound on Route 6. Witnesses described the two drivers as actively swerving at one another.
The confrontation came to a head when the van clipped the rear of Fitch’s Honda Pilot during a passing attempt. The impact sent the Pilot into a spin. Rather than coming to a stop, the vehicle swung back into traffic, now pointed west but traveling in the eastbound lane, and slammed head-on into a Honda CRV that had been moving legally in its own lane…
