FBI, Austin police release invest update on tragic 6th Street shooting

SAN ANTONIO – Federal and local investigators are continuing to piece together what led to a March 1, 2026, shooting on Rio Grande Street in Austin that left three people dead and 19 others injured, according to an update from the FBI.

The FBI and the Austin Police Department said they are investigating what they described as an act of targeted violence. The FBI said it was alerted to the incident and responded immediately, and it recognized the “extraordinary bravery and swift response” of Austin police officers.
