DC man sentenced to 8 years for shooting man near Southeast fire station

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A D.C. man was sentenced Tuesday to eight years in prison for a March 2025 shooting that took place near a Southeast fire station, according to the United States Attorney’s Office (USAO) for the District of Columbia.

Davone Smith, 40, pleaded guilty in Dec. 2025 to one count of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during a crime of violence, and unlawful possession of a firearm. He was additionally ordered to serve three years of supervised release.

According to court records, Smith had been convicted of an armed robbery in September 2009 and had been out of prison for four months before the shooting, which took place while he was still on supervised release…
