  • Strong to severe storms possible tonight
  • Turning cooler Saturday, with breezy winds
  • Elevated fire danger on Sunday
  • 70s to start the week, with storms chances by Tuesday

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – A First Alert Action Day is in place through early Saturday morning due to the potential for strong to severe storms during the late night hours.

Our first wave of rain and storms produced record rainfall here in Rockford. We officially recorded 1.21″ of rain at the airport, which beat the old record of 1.15″ set back in 1973. With more showers and storms expected later tonight, we’ll more than likely add to those totals.

Skies stayed overcast for the majority of the day, with on and off rain which helped to keep our atmosphere a bit more stable. So, expect a lull in the activity for the evening hours with temperatures holding in the lower 60s.
