MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – Leprechauns and locals alike came together for a block party in downtown Moncks Corner. Vendors, restaurants, and shops were decked out in green for an early Saint Patrick’s Day party. The town shut down part of Main Street around Unity Park to traffic and “Let The Shenanigans Begin.” This is the fourth year the town has hosted the block party.
“It brings people to our Main Street. We want to get people into their hometown to support our businesses, Collectors, Citi Trends, Ophelia‘s, Barons. It brings people to the heart of downtown when we have events throughout the year,” said Susan Gilmore, Moncks Corner Special Events Manager.
The street and park was lined with local food and business vendors, a petting zoo, and live music by Randall Fowler, a Goose Creek native now working in Nashville with record labels and fellow country singers.
“Randall has a big following. He’s well known in the Lowcountry and Nashville so people are welcome to bring their chairs out and sit in the park and enjoy music,” said Gilmore.
And as people enjoyed green drinks, food, and roaming the streets, some attendees were lucky enough to get gifts from one special leprechaun.
“This is one of my favorite things to do as mayor is see all the people who come to our events and see support by everyone,” said Mayor Tom Hamilton. “This is the Lowcountry’s hometown, so this just brings us all together to shut down the streets and have everyone, all the vendors, all the shops, the music, the food. This is just a wonderful experience and everyone’s laughing and enjoying their day.”
