NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 1:19 p.m. in the 2500 block of Roanoke Avenue Sunday afternoon, according to officials.
Units arrived on scene 3 minutes later and observed heavy smoke and flames from the rear of the one-story house.
Firefighters determined the house was vacant and confirmed there were no occupants in the dwelling. Crews conducted an aggressive fire attack to control the fire. These efforts confined the blaze to the area of origin.
There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians. Because the structure was vacant, the American Red Cross did not need to provide assistance…
