University Hts. City Council proposed amendment to fair housing ordinance meets with resistance

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio — After getting an earful of protest from several speakers Wednesday (March 4), City Council decided to table legislation that would have amended its fair housing ordinance.

The proposed amendment would drop a mandate included in the city’s fair housing ordinance that landlords must participate in federal, state, local, or private programs that provide financial assistance payments.

The move to amend comes at a time when The Fair Housing Center for Rights & Research and five co-plaintiffs are suing Huntington Green Apartments’ owners and management because the apartment complex, 2200 Milton Road, is alleged to have violated the city’s fair housing ordinance by discriminating against tenants with housing vouchers…
