Friday afternoon in Greenwood took a grim turn when an unidentified body was found in a drainage ditch near the intersection of Swartz Crossing and South State Road 135, authorities said. The Johnson County Coroner’s Office and Greenwood Police Department responded to the scene and opened a death investigation. Officials have not released the person’s identity.
Johnson County Coroner Mike Pruitt said a pedestrian walking toward the ditch discovered the body, according to WRTV. The coroner’s office said it has launched a death investigation and is working with Greenwood police to piece together what happened.
