Leesburg man suspected of drunk driving arrested at RaceTrac

A Leesburg man was arrested for DUI after weaving in his lane and speeding in front of a deputy.

A deputy observed 45-year-old Robert James Young driving a grey Dodge Ram in front of him on U.S. Hwy. 441 around 2 a.m. Friday, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. He watched as the vehicle wove out of its lane and reached 55 mph in a 45-mph zone of Belleview.

Due to this, the deputy stopped the vehicle near RaceTrac, located at 5303 SE Abshier Blvd. He then spoke to Young and noticed the strong smell of alcohol on his breath. He also had bloodshot watery eyes and slurred, mumbled speech, the report said.

Young admitted to having two drinks before agreeing to participate in field sobriety exercises. He struggled at times to keep his balance or do the exercises correctly. Ultimately, the deputy concluded he was under the influence. He later refused to provide a breath sample, the report said…
