Iowa AG Brenna Bird Makes A Stop In Lake View To Tour Jacobsen Seed Company

Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird made a stop in Lake View yesterday (Friday) to tour Jacobsen Hybrid Seed Company. First established in 1936, current owner Dave Nelson is a fourth-generation owner, oversaw the addition of the warehouse for the seed conditioning facility and expanding its network for dealers and distributors. Nelson took Bird through the office and into what was the initial processing center and throughout the new warehouse which was constructed in 2024. Bird says she enjoys touring businesses throughout the state to get an inside look at how everything operates.

Conversations with Bird included the company’s history as one of the few independent seed companies left, the struggles with competing against corporate companies, and other hardships that are faced not only from the company, but also farmers. Bird has made other stops in the listening area, to Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City.

Bird also attended the Northwest Iowa Sheriff Meeting in Carroll, discussing issues happening in their respective counties and legislation that is proposed that has an impact on law enforcement. Bird says having the chance to tour all 99 counties in Iowa is the best way to know she is in the loop of everything…
