African American Youth Empowerment Summit hosted by APS

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque Public Schools hosted a workshop to celebrate and educate students on Black heritage, culture, and history. Every year, the African American Youth Empowerment Summit invites Albuquerque schools to participate in a day of team-building exercises to practice fostering community within social and academic settings.

The event offers a deeper understanding of African American heritage, cultural pride, and identity among high school students. All high school students are invited to take part to learn new ways to connect with their peers.

“So this event helps ground students in their own personal identity, and it also gives them an opportunity in an informal space to find people who share their likes and maybe a common background and have fun together in a nice, organic way,” said Naomi Bowers, manager of APS family and community engagement…
