CSPD: Drone helps police nab teen suspects trying to escape

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Drone surveillance helped the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) catch and arrest two teenage suspects after they allegedly tried to break into vehicles and ran from officers through a densely wooded creek bed on Saturday, March 7, according to CSPD.

Police stated that at about fifteen minutes before midnight on Saturday, officers were dispatched to a location in the 400 block of Kitfield View, near Airport Road and Powers Boulevard, where a vehicle theft was in progress. The caller had reported that two boys were trying to get into vehicles in the area and possibly pointed a gun at the caller’s security camera.

According to CSPD, when officers arrived, the two teenagers immediately ran from the scene toward the wooded creek bed, prompting officers to set up containment and request a drone, which was deployed by the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC). The drone quickly found the two suspects running through the creek and jumping property fences. As they ran, one of the suspects threw away a black backpack, and the drone’s camera caught it being discarded…
