BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK) – A California mother has been sentenced after she left her two young sons in a hot car while getting a cosmetic procedure, resulting in the death of one of them.
Maya Hernandez, 20, was sentenced Thursday to 15 years to life in prison after she was convicted for leaving her two young sons in a hot car, killing one of them. She agreed to the sentence last month as part of a plea deal in which she pled no contest to involuntary manslaughter.
Last June, Hernandez drove from Visalia to Bakersfield for a cosmetic procedure at a medical spa and left her 1-year-old son, Amillio, and her 2-year-old son, Mateo, in the car for more than two and a half hours. Amillio died, and Mateo was hospitalized…
