Firefighters, PennDOT warn of the dangers of Daylight Saving Time

As we head into Daylight Saving Time, firefighters say this weekend is about more than just changing the clock. With fire calls on the rise, they’re reminding families to check something many of us forget about — our smoke detectors.

Daylight Saving Time has once again arrived, and firefighters say this is the moment to check your smoke detectors. They say it’s one of the easiest ways to avoid a deadly situation.

The manufacturers recommend regular testing, but at a minimum, the message has always been the same: during Daylight Saving Time, when you’re changing your clocks, go around your home and test each detector. Physically push the button, hear the alarm go off, and make sure it’s still working. If it has a replaceable battery, this is the time to change it…
