The City of Arab lost more than $430,000 of taxpayer money after falling victim to a scam.
Investigators revealed that the incident happened when someone pretending to work for the construction company building a new recreation center sent a fake invoice, which the city paid.
The fraudulent payment was discovered during an internal review. City leaders emphasized that it was a one-time payment and assured that no city workers’ personal information was compromised.
