EUGENE, Ore. — Drew Mehringer knew Will Stein for more than half-a-decade before the two linked up at Oregon in 2023. They first met in 2017 as members of Tom Herman’s staff at Texas. They became quick friends.
“I remember when we were in Austin together going out and grabbing beers,” Mehringer said on Friday’s episode of the Autzen Audibles podcast. “We were young guys just trying to make it in the industry. His wife and my wife became very good friends, still are.”
Mehringer is currently working to replace the guy he used to “grab beers” with in his 20s. Stein will lead the Kentucky football program, and Mehringer will take over the offense at Oregon that Stein oversaw the past three years…
