Charges filed in illegal ATV, dirtbike crackdown in North Carolina

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Twenty-nine charges were filed following a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police operation targeting the illegal use of dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) on city streets.

On Saturday, March 7, CMPD officers conducted traffic stops and responded to multiple calls for service regarding individuals driving recklessly on ATVs and dirt bikes in the Charlotte area.

The ‘Operation QC Roadway Safety Initiative’ resulted in seven traffic stops, one arrest, two seized firearms, one seized ATV, and various charges, including:

  • Felony Flee to Elude Arrest
  • Possession With Intent to Sell or Deliver Cocaine
  • Possession With Intent to Sell or Deliver Marijuana
  • Carrying Concealed Weapons
  • Possession of a Stolen Firearm
  • Resist, Delay or Obstruct Public Officer
  • Driving While License Revoked
  • No Operator License
  • Hit and Run
  • Noise Ordinance Violation
  • Expired Registration
  • Failure to Stop for a Traffic Control Signal
  • Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign
  • Speeding
  • Aggressive Driving

“The CMPD does not take this issue lightly and discourages any kind of aggressive or reckless driving,” the department says. “The CMPD is also requesting the public’s help in reporting public safety issues. If citizens see large groups driving recklessly and behaving erratically, they’re asked not to engage but call 911.”…
