Foulkes blasts McKee over RI’s last-place ranking for roads

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Democratic gubernatorial candidate Helena Foulkes took aim at incumbent Dan McKee on Monday over a Target 12 report revealing that Rhode Island has had the worst state roads in the country for at least a decade.

The report, which aired last Thursday, found that 32% of Rhode Island’s state roads were in poor condition as of 2024, dead last among all 50 states. A recent academic study independently flagged Rhode Island as an outlier on both road conditions and costs.

Foulkes has made McKee’s management of the R.I. Department of Transportation a key part of her campaign argument against him, particularly his handling of the Washington Bridge crisis and his loyalty to Peter Alviti, who remained as RIDOT director until he retired last month.
