Iowa man charged for bomb threats against Dallas County Courthouse

DALLAS COUNTY, Iowa — An Urbandale man has been charged for allegedly making bomb threats against the Dallas County Courthouse in February.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office said that it received information from the Federal Bureau of Investigation about the bomb threat made against the courthouse on Feb. 6. The tip received claimed that two men had placed explosives throughout the courthouse and that they were scheduled to detonate at 9 a.m. on that day.

The courthouse was placed on lockdown, and the courthouse and the surrounding area were searched, but no bomb was found, and the threat was ultimately deemed not credible.

After the execution of multiple search warrants, the DCSO said on Monday that detectives obtained a cellphone that belonged to Ryan Van Gorp and determined that the phone was used to submit the tip. Further investigation into the phone also found that it was used to call an executive assistant at the courthouse and leave a voicemail that detailed a similar bomb threat, according to the DCSO.

At the time the threat was made, the DCSO said Van Gorp was scheduled to be sentenced in two court cases. He was later taken into custody for an unrelated arrest warrant on Feb. 9…
